DIY legal research
Online information
There are lots of websites offering legal information.
Searching on Google offers hundreds of websites. You need to check that the site you are accessing is a reliable source of information, and not just a forum for people to express their views of the law.
To know if a website is reliable, look for the logos of Community Legal Centres, legal organisations, or government departments.
Here are some websites that offer a range of reliable legal information:
- Victoria Legal Aid – This site also explains VLA guidelines and policies and provides access to a range of plain English publications.
- Law Institute Victoria -This site has information about legal issues as well as understanding court processes and how to get a lawyer.
- The Law Handbook Online – This site has information on Victorian laws and policies.
- Youth Law – information aimed for young people, parents, and youth workers.
