Making a statement

After your interview, the police will ask you if you want to make a further statement. 

This will be a written statement. 

The police may ask you to sign and swear as to its accuracy.

Remember:

• Do not make a statement until you have received advice from your lawyer
• Do not sign anything until you have read it carefully
• Do not sign anything which is incorrect or that you don’t agree with

If you do sign a statement, make sure that you get a copy of your statement.
